"Prudentopolis - Most Idolatrous City in Brazil"

Ola!

This week has been long, but fast at the same time, not really sure what else to say about it, it´s been pretty hard.

With the couple we found Sunday night, João e Ediclera, we got a text from them on Monday night saying that their old Presbyterian pastor showed up like right after we did that same night, completely out of the blue, and offered João a job in Iratí, so they pretty much said that they didn´t want to hear from us anymore because of that. We were pretty mad, like, Prudentópolis is a ridiculously hard area, we never find anyone who really wants to listen, not to mention a family of elites, so we were pretty bummed. We went back on Monday night and we knocked for like 20 minutes and Ediclera finally came out, and she was super nice about it, but yeah, since then we haven´t been able to visit with them, we´ve passed by every day, but haven't been able to get into the door. And they didn't come to church on Sunday. So we´ve been pretty bummed about that.

Not much else, we´re trying and trying, but with little success. We´ve started working with Sydney again, but it isn´t going too far with her, but it´s all we´ve got right now. We also taught a guy named Carlos last night who seems to have a lot of potential. But who knows, after 3 1/2 months of Prudentópolis, it´s getting pretty old. But we just gotta keep goin and goin.

The weather´s still been hot this week too, but we have gotten a bunch of rain, so it´s cooled down at the nights at least.

Being with Elder Madeiros is cool though, we´ve got a bunch in common, so it´s not much different than being with an american companion, I feel more comfortable around Madeiros than Buerkle already haha, we´ve got a ton in common. The language isn´t really a problem, I can speak well enough that we can communicate fine.We talk pretty much all day, without a problem. He´s got a funny accent though cause he´s from the Northeast. It´s been good being able to speak Português all the time, the language is coming along a lot better now. I can pretty much understand everything that everyone says, even here in Prudentópolis, so I´m expecting to be able to understand really well once I get moved into the city, where people actually speak Português hahaha.

A random fact about Prudentópolis that I learned this week. It won the Guiness Book Of World Records ´´Most Idolatrous City in Brazil´´ so I thought that was funny, but I wasn´t surprised at all haha.

Yeah, I told Madeiros that Mike served in Jardim Atlántico and he was like, that´s my ward!! It was hilarious, such a small world haha. But his family hadn´t been baptized at that point, but I´m sure Mike walked past his house or something. After 7 months, I wouldn´t be surprised.

Ah, I´m so jealous that you guys are gonna have snow, I can´t even imagine that concept anymore haha. People here talk about snow like it´s some imaginary thing that are only in fairy tales or something, it´s funny. Whenever I tell people that I´m from Washington, they´re like, ´´ahh, I bet you get tons of snow there, what´s it like??´´ haha.

Tell Eric congrats on the job, man he´s lucky to get 9.50 an hour, those are pretty good starting wages, and some good hours too.

Anyways, sorry this email has been lame, hopefully this week will be more eventful, but I´ve gotta go either way!! Hope everyone is well on that part of the world, I miss everyone, and I hope all goes well for everyone this week!!!

Até mais!

tem cuidado sobre as moças!!! (Be careful around girls!!!)

Bom, tudo mundo!

How is everyone doing this week? It´s been a good one, but I already have like no time left!! I´ll try to type quick.

This week has been crazy, Monday night we heard about transfers, which is always really exciting and intense, all 4 of us in our district had been here for at least 2 transfers, so it was way up in the air who was going to get transferred. So we got the call on Monday night, and they told us that Elder Harper and Elder Buerkle were leaving, Elder Harper is a district leader now in Pinhais, he was really sad to leave, he loved Irati, we had some good times too, I was pretty bummed to see him go, we have like everything in common haha, it was always good to get a break form Elder Buerkle during our weekly splits. Elder Buerkle actually got a call personally from President Cordon (which is super rare, what with there being 190 missionaries in the mission, but he really likes Elder Buerkle). Anyways, President Cordon asked him to be a Zone Leader in the Curitiba/Iguaçu zone, and of course he said yes. He was SO mad though, it was pretty funny. Elder Buerkle loved Prudentópolis, and he hated to leave the city, not to mention the fact that he was going to be a zone leader in the zone that he just left from. He will be serving in Ala Dois (just means ward 2 or 2nd ward) which is literally right next to Barigui, where he served for 6 months before Prudentópolis. He was pretty mad. I was actually a little sad to see him go, after being companions for 3 months. But I got a new companion, Elder Madeiros, he´s from Olinda, Brasil, it´s a pretty big city really close to Recife, Mike may have served there? Anyways, he´s a really good missionary, he´s been out for about 1 year and 4 months, and he is really good at teaching, I am already learning so much, I´m pretty excited to work with him. It was actually kind of a funny story once Buerkle left, cause Elder Buerkle had to leave for Curitiba at 8 in the morning, and Elder Madeiros wouldn't get here until 7:30 at night, so I had to stay with a member all day. I stayed with Irmão Daniel, he teaches English, so I just helped him with his classes all day, it was kinda fun. So we headed over to the Redoviaria (bus station) at 7:20ish, and he had to rush to go teach a class, so we figured it would be okay if I just waited alone for like 5 minutes until Elder Madeiros´s bus got here, so I waited, and the bus got here.... but he didn´t get off. After the bus left, I called the zone leaders and I was like, so I´ve got a little problem, and I explained what happened. They told me that they just got a call from the assistants saying that he wouldn't arrive until 9:00, and they were like super urgent and they were like, find a member really quick! And be careful, tem cuidado sobre as moças!!! ( be careful around girls!!!!) hahaha. So I pretty much ran to one of the members houses and expalined that I couldn't be alone, and they said it was cool. We went to the bus station at 9:30 and like 3 buses showed up and he didn't get off, we waited and waited and waited until like 11:30, and he finally showed up, it was pretty funny, I was so tired though, I haven´t been up that late in forever!!

But since then things have been good, it´s awesome to be with a brasileiro, he doesn´t speak any english really, just some words, so it´s great to be able to speak Português all day every day, Elder Buerkle hated speaking the language. We have also found some really good investigators the past couple days. Last night we found this couple, that are seriously elite, we are so excited about them, they loved our message, we have really high hopes for them, we´re gonna visit them again tonight.
The weather here is still hot and humid, this week has been the hottest week of my life, it has been in 40´s all week. So I think that´s like 110 or something, but it almost killed us haha. It should cool down in about a month in a half or so, so I´m pretty excited about that.

Anyways, I´m pretty short on time, I should probably go, oh yeah, today is my 150th day on the mission, I thought that was pretty cool, my 5 month mark is tomorrow also, which is crazy. It goes by pretty fast. Today´s also the 1st day of Carnaval, but here in Prudentópolis it´s not too big, probably just a bunch of parties tonight, that should make for a good nights rest haha. But it´s all good.

Anyways, I gotta go!!! Tchau todo mundo, até mais!!!!

100° all week, 100% humidity!

Olá tudo bem?! Hoje é P-Day vamos fubecar!! (Haha only uncle Mike will understand that)

This week has been great, we have been really working hard, and seeing a lot of results. This week has been another week of working a lot with the members and less actives, the branch is catching fire here! It´s great. This week we had 48 people at church (that´s a lot!), and Romildo´s family came again, it was awesome, we also had like 3 families bring investigators to church, so we have new investigators to work with, we are really excited about that. This week has been HOT though, we´re right in the dead center of summer here, so we have been in the 100´s all this week, with 100% humidity, it has been horrible, but only a few more months of summer here!

For transfers, I´m not sure yet, we should be finding out tonight at like 9:30, so next week in my email, I might be in a new area! But chances are slim, I´m pretty sure Elder Buerkle is gonna get transferred, so I´ll probably just have a new companion, so that will be an exciting change, but wherever I go doesn´t really matter, and I´m starting to like my area more and more every day, so I´m totally fine for another transfer here.

I got the package with the PoS puzzle, BoM, and temple pants, so thanks for that! Man, there was a lot of candy in there, I didn´t know what to do with it all, I hope you don´t mind that I gave some to some brasileiro missionaries, they hadn´t ever had snickers before, so I had to let them try it.

I also got the email with the pictures on it, that was great, everyone looked like they had a lot of fun during new years, that looks like so much fun haha.

That´s good to hear about Kevin Astle, I can't believe he´s already home, tell him I say oi if you get a chance!

Well, I need to finish up, we´re in Guarapuava right now for a zone activity, and we need to get off to catch our bus in a little bit, so I will talk to you guys next week!! I´ll try to get some pictures too!

Tchau tudo mundo, até logo!!

Progress finally happening in Prudentopolis!

Oi, tudo bem!!

Well, I am really short on time this week, so we´ll see how much I can write. This week, not too much has happened, it has been a really hard one, and we really didn´t get much accomplished, so it was really kind of a disappointing week. But what most people are saying, is that when you have weeks like this on the mission, you probably won´t have another one like it for a while, so I am hoping that´s true, cause it has been pretty rough.

This week we have really focused on working with the members, and it is crazy to see how much the branch has changed the past month or so, it´s pretty much exploded (in a good way). All the members have really come together, and they are actually getting out and doing their home teaching, visiting teaching, and even coming out to lessons with us sometimes. It really has been crazy to see, people who were less active when I got here, are now really strong members, and doing great work for the branch. It was funny this week, we were headed to an inactive´s house, and when we got there, there were already two branch members there doing their home teaching, it was awesome, progress is finally happening here in Prudentópolis. To top it all off, there is this family that we have been working with for abut a month or so that used to be really active in the church, but have been inactive for a while, that finally came to church yesterday! It was awesome, we have been doing family home evening with them every saturday night for the past month and a half or so, and they finally came yesterday. And the dad even bore his testimony during sacrament meeting yesterday, it was great. We really hope that they keep on coming, they are really awesome.

Also, we have been working a lot with Anderson, a member who was baptised about 3 years ago, and he is about 20 years old, he just put in his mission papers last week, but he´s been working with us a lot too, so we got a lot of lessons with a member present this week, which was good for our numbers. Anyways, sorry for all of that missionary talk, it´s probably kind of boring for every one else to read haha.

I am so jealous to hear about the Superbowl yesterday!!!! It sounded like a great game, I wish I was there sooooooo bad, I can´t even explain it haha. But it´s better that I am here. I pretty much got to watch it anyways, Mike gave me a pretty detailed explanation haha, and I´ll be able to watch football again in like 19 months, so it´s all good. Man, it has gone by fast, and every week it just goes faster and faster, I can´t believe it.

Anyways, I am out of time, so I should probably get off, sorry this weeks email was kind of boring, but this week has been kinda like that, transfers are coming up in one week from today, so who knows what might happen, I could definitely get transferred cause my training will be done, but Buerkle has been in the area for 3 already, so he´s definitely due for a transfer, so who knows? I guess we´ll see in a week or so!! Anyways, I hope all is well for all you guys, and for anyone else who is reading this, I miss you all, and I´ll talk to you later!!

Tchau tchau, até mais!!
